What you will be doing

Timing flexible (contact us).

The promenade along Marina Beach is dotted with more than 10 statues on the beach side and faces heritage buildings and institutions of prominence on the other side of the Kamaraj Salai (road). The statues include those of historical importance and icons of Tamil literature.

Starting from the Triumph of Labour statue, we will walk the (less than) 3 km stretch towards the Lighthouse at a gentle pace, taking in the sights and sounds. If you’d rather cycle than walk the way, we can arrange it by using bicycles that are available for hire.

While both of us will be explaining the claim to fame of the various people now carved in stone, I will be bringing some of them to life through musical renditions of some of their more popular or related works.

We will end our walk at the Lighthouse, climbing which offers stunning, rich views of the vibrant shoreline. (Visits to the Lighthouse are subject to its opening hours.)

Based on your choice, this walk can be done at various time slots through the day. We would suggest slots closer to sunrise, as lesser vehicular traffic affords a better environment to listen to the songs performed.

About us

A psychology graduate currently working with the subtitling industry, I was born and brought up in Chennai. I am a performing Carnatic vocalist, with over 20 years of music experience.

I have been a student of Bhavadhaarini Anantharaman, a disciple of renowned Indian Carnatic musician D. K. Pattammal, for more than 10 years and have performed on various stages across the country along with her.

My husband, Ganesh, is a writer and journalist, with a strong fondness for the city we call home. Together, we wish to share some of the experiences that makes Chennai really special.

Location and starting point

The Marina beach is one of the longest natural urban beaches of the world. We will be walking its promenade, stepping in and out of the shoreline and stopping to take in the magnificence of the statues adorning the walkway.

We will be passing the Vivekananda House and visiting the Lighthouse, apart from taking in other landmarks along the way.

If we are doing the evening walk, we can stop for street food, options for which are aplenty.

The precise 3x3 m square marking our starting point. Lyrical, isn’t it?

As our starting and ending points are well apart, cab aggregators and public transport would be handy to get you to the starting point.

Consider taking a cab/autorickshaw to the Labour Statue. Public transport should also work (Ezhilagam is the bus stop. Anna Square is a bigger bus depot nearby.)

For bookings, contact us via Telegram, WhatsApp or email. Back to top.

Inclusions apart from the experience

Considering that Chennai is a humid city, we will be carrying ample packaged drinking water for you with us.

If we perform this experience at a time when the Lighthouse will be open, the entrance tickets for visiting the Lighthouse is on us!

Complimentary mask and sanitizer as we bounce back together from the ongoing pandemic.

Things you might want to bring

An umbrella that will come handy, rain or shine. A cap or suitable headgear when it is sunny and a raincoat if it is rainy, are also good alternatives.

You might want to get your sunglasses.

Footwear that allows you to amble across easily at a sedate pace. While on this point, it might be good advice to suggest clothing that is comfortable to walk the near 3km stretch.

For bookings, contact us via Telegram, WhatsApp or email. Back to top.

Keep in mind

This experience can be provided in English and Tamil. Both of us can understand and speak Hindi to an extent, but the experience will be in the mentioned two languages. The songs performed, however, might be from other languages as well.

We will be walking at a gentle, leisure pace, taking around 90 minutes to cover a distance of less than 3 km.

We usually do groups of up to seven, but if you are a single group with a larger number of people, we will be willing to accommodate.

For bookings, contact us via Telegram, WhatsApp or email. Back to top.
